Country

List of all Galleries

Being born and raised in the country means that I take much of country life for granted. Our lifestyle is much more relaxed. I don't even have to lock my car when I go to the gallery. I can take the time to appreciate the rust patterns on the old tractor or laugh at the chickens in the yard. Unfortunately our way of life is fast disappearing just like the old barns that are falling into total disrepair.

All Things Shall Pass Away

Rusty old Farmall H

Thank God there is still a place for many of these old tractors. We are seeing more and more of them coming out all renewed and running like a top. The newest rage in Iowa is to take these old tractors on trail rides. What Fun!!!

Child's Play

Child playing in the sand

This is my daughter but it could be anyone's child doing what children do the very best, play. At that moment, building a sand castle was the most important thing in her world.

Country Line Dance

Three Chickens doing a Line Dance

you can imagin my surprise when I opened my package of photo's and saw this picture of the three chickens doing a line dance, of course I was going to paint it!

Days End

A pair of percherons enjoying a bath

The last day of the Clay Count Fair and a much deserved bath before the long ride home.

Ecclesiastes 4:9

A fancy team of Blonds

This pair of draft horses probably have never had to do real farm work a day in their life but their grace and beauty is a thing to behold.

Equally Yoked

A pair of Appaloosa mules in harness

This pair of perfectly matched appoloosa mules was such fun to paint.

Gods Light

Sunset beyond the farm

The colors and the shapes of the clouds are a constant challenge to me. I paint them over and over in my mind.

Grandpas Pride

Grandpa's old tractor renewed

One of the many restored tractors that has been on the PATOOT (Petersons Annual Trip On Old Tractors) ride held each summer here in Peterson.

Green Pastures

Cow and Calf on lush spring pasture

The setting of this painting is Two Tree Hill. This is my favorite view of our farm. It is on Sleepy Hollow Road, now how is that for a romantic name? This scene has appeared in several of my paintings.

In The Cool Of The Day

Black cows in a foggy valley

Foggy mornings and cattle make for a tranquil, restful scene.

Sticken Close To The Well

Herford Cows Sticken Close to the well

In the heat of the day, the shade of the tree and the water keep these cattle close to the well.

The Cattle On A Thousand Hills

Cows and calves on lush summer pasture

The sight of the cows and calves on pasture in the summer brings all sorts of romantic ideas about the old west and cowboys and round-ups. This too is something that is slipping away from us.

The Eagle Soars

Winter landscape with eagle

Winter on the Little Sioux River bottom with an eagle soaring overhead.

Winter Coat

Old barn in winter

Old barns cause our minds to drift back to another time. A time of draft horses and cows and calves and kittens lined up for a drink of warm milk. Oh how the memories flow.
